Glass Bead Workshop - A Book Comes Alive
with Jeri Warhaftig
July 26 & 27 at Carlisle Machine Works

In this two day workshop beadmaker and author Jeri Warhaftig will bring alive the projects, tools and techniques presented in her new Lark book to be published in May, 2008. At the outset we will make complex twisties which will then be used to embellish hollow vessels and beads blown at the torch using the "puffy mandrel." In other beads students will learn methods for working with copper inclusions, fine silver, silver leaf and enamels. As time permits we will explore dichroic glass and any other techniques of special interest to class attendees.

Jeri Warhaftig
Jeri has been creating handmade glass beads for more than dozen years. She has studied extensively with some of the leading beadmakers in the United States and teaches privately in her own studio in West Orange, New Jersey and on a national level.

She is a member of the Education Committee of the ISGB and has been on their panel of presenters for several years. Her work has been seen in several of the ISGB's juried shows, and in many juried shows in private galleries. Her beads have appeared in the former Lapidary Journal Bead Annual and her articles have appeared in Step by Step Beads and Glass Patterns Quarterly. Jeri's work has twice been recognized as a finalist in the Bead and Button "Bead Dreams" competition. Four of Jeri's beads were included in the New Jersey 2004 Arts and Crafts Annual exhibit at the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey and her beads are currently included in jewelry displayed in the 2008 Arts and Crafts Annual exhibit at the Montclair Museum of Art.

Jeri most frequently teaches in a team with her husband Neil, who also makes her tools and displays. In particular, they collaborate on many sandblasted beads. Jeri and Neil created beads that were selected for Bead Review 1 (2005), and Bead Review 2 (2006). Jeri is a juror for the upcoming Bead Review 3 (2007). Jeri has just completed a book of lampworking projects designed to help beginning glass beadmakers move their work to new and exciting levels. Glass Bead Workshop, by Jeri Warhaftig, is scheduled for a Spring 2008 release by Lark Books. Jeri's work and teaching schedule can be found at www.jeribeads.com.
