INTERMEDIATE KILN-FORMING
with Brad Walker

INTERMEDIATE KILN-FORMING -- BEYOND TWO LAYERS
The course begins with making pattern bars and expands to include stack firing and related techniques for working with thicker blocks and multiple layers of glass. In addition to several methods of pattern bar construction, we will also cover three different approaches to creating thicker items in glass. Techniques covered will include:
• Using inclusions, enamels, and glass powder and frit to form embedded and surface designs in glass
• Dam-building and related volume control techniques for thicker items and pattern bars
• Cold working, with a focus on edge-working on the wet belt sander
• Discussion of using these techniques for making larger items such as table tops and sinks
Complete firing schedules will be provided and students will be able to make several items using their choice of techniques. Experience with basic kiln processes essential.

Note on equipment requirements: We will need a glass or tile saw to slice the pattern bars and basic cold working equipment such as a wet belt sander or similar machine.
