Silver Clay for Cabochons

In this class students will learn how to make a silver bail using Art Silver Clay. Basics techniques of working with the silver clay, paste and syringe medias will be demonstrated. Students may bring their own cabochons (no larger than 3/4 inch) or will be available for purchase.

A second project will be painting overlay paste on a pre-made cab. Both of these projects will be dried and fired during the class.

The third project will be finishing a pre-fired silver clay charm. This will include cleaning, polishing and patinaing with liver of sulfur.

Materials fee for this class is $35.00 and tools used in this class may be purchased from the instructor at the end of the class.

Kathi has been addicted to glass since she and her Mother took their first glass classes twenty years ago. Her love for glass has grown into a career when she opened Glassic Arts Stained Glass in 1990. She has taught classes in stained glass, fused glass and glass bead making.

Glassic Arts also specializes in creating custom designs in glass for homes businesses and churches in the Central Florida area. She is an active member of Retailers of Art Glass and Supplies, an International group of glass shop owners. She also is a member of the Florida Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and currently co-president of  The Florida Glass Dragons, the Florida chapter of the International Society of Glass Bead-makers.

“Art glass has been in a revival phase, there is so many new things being done in glass.” Kathi’s quest for more glass knowledge has led her to study with many outstanding glass artists. Richard La Londe, Newy Fagen, Brad Walker have been the most influential in kiln work glass. Hot glass instructors include Robert Mickelsen, Brad Pearson, Sharon Peters and John Kabuki. Her current interest lies in combining Silver Clay with beads and fused cabochons.
